Oscar Peterson was my ultimate favorite pianist growing up. He had the most influence on my beginnings. To this day I can’t get over the clarity in his sound, articulation and touch when playing his lines. Everything is is so clean and elegant. Best of all, he just swings and swings and swings till the cows come home. It’s incredible.

I love Oscars lines because they aren’t too complicated yet they sound so great! He mainly uses diatonic approaches mixed in with some blues scale licks and extensions. It’s quite simple actually in theory, but playing them can be the opposite of simple. Work on the swing feel of Oscars’ lines especially once you get the notes. The swing is everything.

Enjoy!
